Description:
3 Day course --- 10am to 4.30pm each day
This course is a very specialized training course covering all aspects
of wind turbines, while also involving hands on building a highly robust wind Turbine, built with auto
furling and electric braking to suit Irish Climates. We balance and test
the turbine in our workshop upon completion.
This machine is highly efficient and the only successful home built
turbine for these large size machines.
We concentrate on a 2.4m turbine on the course and show how this size
machine can be connected into your home for free electricity or hot water. ( This
turbine can be connected easily and gives constant hot water from the
wind.)
The different-sized machines, up to 5.2m rotor, are all similar to make,
and we have detailed drawings for all machines.
The Wind Turbine’s efficiency is due to:
-
No Gear Box - speed of propellers is the generator
speed.
-
No Friction - Most wind turbines, including this
design, use permanent magnets. This means brushes are not needed as
magnets travel close to the stator, without touching, so there is no
power lost, due to friction.
-
Tried and Tested: This design is being built
throughout the world for the past 30 years, due to its simplicity and
robustness.
Attendance Certificate and Full course notes are included.
Details:
Design of wind turbines
calculating power in the wind
grid vs off grid
safety
sizing a turbines
alternator design and building
Steel framework
Carving blades
Assembly and balancing
We build one machine together on the course, so everyone
understands what options sizing and what voltage to build afterwards.
It is the simplicity of its design, with overspeed
protection & storm resistance, which makes it a very terrific
option for producing your own power.
The turbine can be installed to
batteries, to the grid, or to heat water, and we cover all these aspects
on the course.
We have run the course many times over the past few
years, and many participants have built and installed their own after
the course..
Here is a set of photos on one course we ran for the
